Social Media for Orcanadian Art
Under the name Orcanadian Art on Facebook and Twitter, I published a weekly web comic series exploring Vancouver's public transit with a lighthearted and humorous approach. The comics were occasionally accompanied by illustrations of current transit trends, such as the 2019 Pride Bus and the recently-implemented double decker bus.
Within its first year, Orcanadian Art gained 1,000+ followers on Facebook and 90+ followers on Twitter. My work has been promoted on the official TransLink Facebook page, as well as on DailyHive. Furthermore, I was invited to illustrate for TransLink's official publication The Buzzer. Promoting my art practice through social media provided me with experience in communicating effectively to a broad audience, producing and delivering organic content on a schedule, as well as engaging with followers in a timely and professional manner. I chose local transit as a familiar yet relatively unexplored theme to make my art practice stand out. My work attracts a broad range of people with different transit experiences, from commuters and everyday transit users to enthusiasts and transit workers. |
